TOPIC: DORCAS (TABITHA)

TEXT: Acts 9v36
“Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called DORCAS: this woman was full of good works and alms deed which she did.”

MEMORY VERSE*:Galatians 6:9-10
“And let us not be weary in well doing:for in due season we shall reap ,if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunities, let us do good unto all men,especially unto them whare of the household of faith”

FOCUS
Today, we shall be looking at another character in the Bible called DORCAS by name, she was full of good works and alms deed. Her good works were so obvious that the whole community felt her impact. The question this morning is how relevant are you to people’s lives?
There are so many people who are never relevant to their families talk more of their community. They live a very selfish life and are not bothered about anyone.
They are also not mindful of God’s Kingdom, they are the ones that Brother Paul described as their “belly is their gods”. But for Dorcas, living for people was a big deal to her.She was passionate and caring as a woman. She was a cheerful giver and not a selfish woman. No wonder when she was struck with death, the people she had blessed became her advocate ,they sought by all means how she will be brought back to life.
No wonder the bible encourages us to be rich in good works. Indeed good works pays.

LESSON
ACTS 9:39-40 “Then Peter arose and went with them, when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber, and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which DORCAS made, while she was with them. But Peter put them forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said,Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up”

Dorcas like every other person had her own share of the ugliness of life that leaves no one out, despite her good works and alms deed.
Contrary to many opinions there will always be trying times, there will always be a day that you will be not be able to pray for yourself, that is the day you need your goodworks to speak for you.
King David understood this very well and that is why he said, may your offerings and sacrifices speak for you in the day of need. Whether you are rich or poor, married or single, every one will have a day of need.
Peter had to send those garments as a reminder to God, he reminded him why DORCAS had to live and not die.
Today, make a choice to bless people. One day we will discover that the goodworks are never in vain.

PERSONAL CONFESSION:
I receive grace not to be weary in goodworks and almsdeed at all times.

PRAYER FOCUS:
Father help me to be rich in goodworks in the name of Jesus christ.
