TOPIC: ABRAHAM
TEXT: Genesis 18:4 ” Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:”
Memory Verse: Genesis 18:14 “Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
FOCUS:
This morning we are Father Abraham: the father of all faith. Abraham wasn’t only the father of faith, he was rich in good works. The Bible told us in Genesis 18 that as Abraham lifted up his eyes, three men stood by him and he saw them. While he was looking at the, he never ignored them neither did he pretend as though he didn’t see them rather he ran to meet them from the tent store and bowed himself towards the ground and said to them my Lord, if I found favor in thy sight pass not away I pray thee, from thy servant.
Do not forget, Abraham didn’t know them; that is why yesterday we said that your heart must be open. His heart could have told him to ignore them but most times when you ignore certain instructions, you have ignored your answered prayers. And then he said, ‘I will fetch a morsel of bread and I will comfort your heart. Don’t go from me, come let me entertain you, let me give you the little I have.’
Many times, people ignore their blessings by not making them to understand that every good work is responsibility. From that scripture, it was obvious that Abraham had to kill a calf and dressed it; that is extra work. No wonder, someone said that responsibility is responding to your ability within you. Don’t forget that God will never ask you to give what you don’t have the capacity to give but you must respond to the ability within you. You must come to the point whereby you tell yourself ‘yes! it is in my power to do this.’ Until you do so, God will begin to make his face shine upon. Don’t forget that hospitality is not just about entertainment, it is about doing it cheerfully; the Bible says God loves a cheerful giver. Those who give grudgingly have lost their reward but when you move in to God and begin to respond to the ability in you, charisma plus hospitality equals divine visitation. God bless you. Amen.
LESSON:
Hebrew 13:2 “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
This morning we are talking about how Father Abraham entertained strangers and got Isaac as his reward. Hospitality as we know begins from the heart, not from the hand: It doesn’t start from what you have or what you don’t have. If you are willing to do it, provision will be made available.
Father Abraham is a man who gave himself despite he and his wife were barren. But, he looked beyond their physical situation and extended his hands of love to the three men who came. He went far by killing a live Kid for them just to ensure they were comfortable. It was at their departure, after they’ve been well fed that they announced to Abraham that Sarah is going to Laugh. But sometimes, we put our need in front of us and this need blinds us from seeing the responsibility we can take to provoke the miracle we desire. Many people go about life with complains and murmurings, you hear them saying things like ‘Do you not know I have a need? Are you not aware I lack this or that?’ That is why the book of Hebrews reminded us that we should not be forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Angel came in human body and they were entertained. Who have you brought into your home? Who have you entertained? Sometimes, God comes in human form and bless people because if He comes in the mightiness of His power, man will definitely runaway but when He picks the form of a servant and comes in human form, we will then be able to tolerate it. God wants you to extend your hands of kindness to someone today. God bless you. Amen.
PERSONAL CONFESSION: I receive grace to be hospitable to strangers like father Abraham.
PRAYER FOCUS: Father deliver me from every spirit of disobedience in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: God’s blessings is always with the generous soul.
Hospitality starts from the heart and not your head. Care for one! Care for all…
