TOPIC: Ingratitude.

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 4:20
[20]He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

FOCUS: Psalms 115:1
[1]Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.

Ingratitude is not feeling or showing pleasure, relief, or gratitude. It’s the state of being Unappreciative or unthankful.

How many of us thank him for every breath we take and for every action he takes for our benefit? How many of us gratefully sing his praises and glorify his holy name when he answers our prayers or for that matter, even when he seemingly does not?

Though we admit that thanksgiving is a virtue, are we ready to admit that ingratitude is a sin? Perhaps, we all need to confess to the sin of failing to say thank you to our God.

LESSON: Malachi 2:2
[2]If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

Ingratitude does not recognise the sovereignty of God. Since the earth is the LORD’S and the fullness thereof, what right have we to call things our own? and what right do we have to use God’s property without recognising at least the word of mouth, his ownership?

Ingratitude is the failure to admit our dependence upon God. In Him, we live and move and have our being and every good gift and perfect gift come down from the Father of lights.

PERSONAL CONFESSION: Lord, I am grateful to you always.

PERSONAL PRAYER: I reject every spirit of ingratitude.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Ingratitude is a crime more despicable than revenge, revenge is only returning evil for evil, while ingratitude returns evil for good.

NOTE: Ingratitude is the essence of vileness.
