TOPIC: DISCONTENTED SPIRIT
TEXT : Exodus 16:16
This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
FOCUS
Today we are looking at the last enemy of gratitude in this series and it is, discontentment spirit. It is a spirit that is never satisfied. The Israelites were in the wilderness, they had a challenge; there was no food, Moses called upon God on their behalf and God told Moses not to worry that He will send food from heaven.
That alone, make me to wonder the Mightiness of God. The Bible said they murmured; they were hungry and God decided to rain down a food that looks like flakes. Instead of showing gratitude, they were not just satisfied and they began to do other things.
I don’t know what you are complaining about. Many times people can’t thank God because their spirit is just angry, they see no reason to thank God. The Israelites should have been in awe of God, wondering where did they prepare this manna because it was a ready made food, they didn’t have to cook or warm it. To me this is a supernatural deed that was supposed to amaze them but they were just not satisfied.
Maybe you are reading this devotional and you have this same spirit, tell God to forgive you because it will never make you thank God, you won’t see God in the little He has given to you, you will always want more. When God brings bread, you complain of the butter, when the butter comes, you complain about the brand.
This is what the spirit of discontentment causes. It makes people not to be satisfied of what they have, this spirit hinders you from gratitude; it is time to repent.
LESSON
Exodus 16:20
Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
1 Timothy 6:6
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
A man that have a discontented spirit will listen to instructions but will never do it. This is not disobedience, they are not just pleased. The Bible gives us the remedy to treating this spirit. What has draw people away from God is when they are looking for multitude. Having food and raiment is singular not plural but when people finish having one and they want to keep going and going, then it becomes a problem because God Himself has already provided man to just do one thing for Him; you have this. When you have this, I will do one thing for you. But man because of many nature that was inherited from the devil, man will always bring in “incase” and it was this incase that made the Israelites keep manna till the following morning.
Today is Christmas, whatever God has given to you be satisfied with it. People are celebrating all over the world, make sure you have no reason to disagree with God. Merry Christmas and wishing you a prosperous New Year in advance.
