TOPIC: THE ORPHANS
TEXT: Proverbs 19:17
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again”
MEMORY VERSE:Lamentations 5:3
“We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows”
FOCUS
Today we are looking at a new series, and we will be looking at “Who should we bless?” and for today’s lesson,we are talking about the Orphans/Poor.
The Bible according to our text has told us that anytime we give to the poor, we lend to God. What an investment! Sometimes people want to bless but they do not know who to be a blessing to.
So the first category is the Poor. The Bible has told us that the poor will not cease from the land, this means in your community, close to your house, and somewhere around where you work, the poor are always there.
So, when you are thinking of who to bless, please consider the poor.
Who are the poor? The poor are people that you have an edge over and this does not necessarily mean that you have more money than them. Not necessarily,someone can be poor financially, someone can be poor emotionally and do not forget that the Bible also says “Blessed are the poor in spirit”
There are people that you are more knowledgeable than, so it means in that area, they are poor and you are rich. Any area in life where you are better than someone, it means you are rich in that area and the other person is poor in that area.
So it is not only money!
Academically, you can be richer than someone so you have to take from your pool of knowledge and share with that person. Knowledge shared is knowledge replaced.
The tank that gives water does not run dry. Anytime you are looking for someone to bless, always remember the poor, and the poor in our text does not mean someone that does not have money- it simply means someone that you are better than physically, emotionally, spiritually, materially, and in every other area.
If you do not understand the principles behind giving, you will never give. Giving is what God expects from you.
What you know, are you willing to share with someone? If you have it, and you do not share it, you will never bring a bountiful harvest to you.
LESSON
PSALM 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and the needy
We are still looking at the poor(particularly the orphans). The scripture above urges us to defend the fatherless and protect them.
Do not let them suffer because they do not have a physical Father.
A physical Father is what they lack and one of the roles of a physical Father is that a good Father defends his children, he protects them from attacks/evil and he does not allow his children to suffer.
While on the other hand, a bad Father exposes his children to all manner of evil.
We know that the orphans do not have a physical Father, so the Bible expects us as kingdom children to defend them, to protect them from molestation, from harassment and evil.
This does not only apply to Orphans – that your neighbor’s child, watch over that child, protect the child, do not ignore when you see that child doing evil.
Oftentimes, we leave children to do whatever they want and allow them to get exposed to all sorts in the name of “He/She is not my child”, not knowing that this same child will grow up to become a nuisance to the society which may in turn even affect you.
A bad child is not bad because he/she wants to be bad. It is because many of them do not have people to teach/guide them.
Defend the fatherless, watch over them, make sure they do not have anything corrupting their mindset, protect them as much as you can – this is one of the ways, you can carry out your good works.
The child may not be able to tell you “Thank you” but God will definitely reward you.
God will bless you for watching over a child that is not your own.
Love them but do not molest them.
Care for them but do not initiate them into evil vices.
Counsel them but do not cancel their destiny.
Watch over them but do not indulge them in evil vices.
