TOPIC: THE GOOD SAMARITAN
TEXT: Luke 10:33 ” But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,”
Memory Verse: Proverb 14:24 “The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.”
FOCUS:
Today we are talking about the Samaritan man. The Bible said there was a certain Samaritan who came from Samaria, as he journeyed, came where he was: and he saw him, he had compassion on him. Why? Before this man came, even the priest had seen this man. The Bible said the man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among these thieves; the thieves stripped him of his raiments and wounded him and they departed leaving him half-dead; and by chance, there came a certain priest that way and when he saw him, he passed on by the side. Perhaps he was rushing to preach so he quickly rushed leaving the man saying ‘God knows I won’t be able to help you.’ And then likewise a Levite when he was at the place looked on him and passed on; you could see that these are men that of a certain God has called and they know their calling is sure but a certain man called the Samaritan came; he didn’t have a name, the Bible didn’t inform us about where he was rushing too. And this man came, he bound him, pouring oil wine, set him on his beast and brought him in and took care of him; paid all his bill. Why? This man understood the power of good works.
Good works does not only promote you, it makes you an extension of God’s love. God’s love is so wonderful and deep that you cannot seen end or the beginning of God’s love. This is the same love that made Jesus to leave His through and came to this sinful world to redeem us that we might become partakers of His nature; the nature of righteousness.
If you don’t know the depth of God or have never tasted the power in the blood of Jesus through the redemption of sin, you can never have compassion on anyone. Look at the priest and the Levite, nobody is blaming them as they were probably going to church but look at what happened, they didn’t attend to the man in need of help. So it means that for the event that happened that morning, God weighed that good work more than the person who was going to preach and the person who knew the Law. Good works does not save but good works can bring you in favor with God. Amen.
LESSON:
Luke 10:34 “And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.”
Today we are looking at the Samaritan man who helped the man that fell into the hands of thieves and they rendered him almost naked and left him half-dead. The Bible said something that we need to ponder on this morning: When Jesus was talking to His disciples He said it profoundly as He said, I was the prison you didn’t come to visit me, I was sick you never bothered to check me in the hospital, I was naked but you didn’t bother to clothe me, I was hungry you didn’t give me food; and immediately the disciples responded ‘Lord when did we do this? For we cannot do such to you.’ And Jesus profoundly replied them and said that ‘inasmuch as you have done this to any of these, you have done it to me.’
The disciples were amazed and thought to themselves, ‘why is Christ incubating what we did to our neighbor to Him directly?’ Don’t forget that this is not the first time that Christ is saying that. Even when He was talking about little children, He said let them come to me for theirs is the kingdom. Jesus also told them that if anyone is offended in this little one, it is better that one is not born. You could see the analogy there and realize that it is time to look inward and be conscious that whatever you do to your neighbor, you have done it to God.
Until we begin to see life this way, we might not be free from evil. Many people feels like ‘who cares?’ But Christ actually cares. God bless you. Happy new week.
