TOPIC: ELIJAH(PRAYER)

TEXT: 1 KINGS 18:7-8
“[7]And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?
[8]And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.”

MEMORY VERSE: 1 KINGS 17:1 “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

FOCUS
This morning, we will be looking at Elijah. Elijah was a man who commanded signs and was also a sign and a wonder through the power of prayer. Elijah prayed to the extent that he spoke to heaven that there will be no rain or dew, he shut the heaven for 3 and half years and pocketed the key. Nobody has ever done that before. Elijah was a man of prayer and his one-day prayer shut the heavens for 3 and half years. And it was the same Elijah who commanded heaven to give their dew.

If you will pray, you will become a sign and a wonder. A man of prayer will always command signs and wonders. A prayerful man is greater than a man who sees vision. Prayer brings you to the table with God where you can negotiate and renegotiate. Prayer does not stop you but stops the enemy and his cohorts from fulfilling their plans.

The Bible says “men ought always to pray and not to faint” so the more you pray, the more signs and wonders you enjoy. Do you want to enjoy signs and wonders? Then pray. Do you want to see the heavens open? Then pray. Do you want to shut the heavens? Then pray. Prayer answers all things. Prayer is not the master key but prayer is one of the major keys.

In the school of the spirit, a man of prayer is a feared man so when you meet someone who understands the power of prayer, please do not joke with him/her. A man who understands the power of prayer on his knees is greater than a man that carries a sword. Prayer answers things that are unimaginable. The power of prayer affects creatures and elements both visible and invincible. Pray if you want to be a sign and a wonder.

LESSON
JAMES 5:17 “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.”

We are looking at Elijah, the man who commanded signs and wonders by prayer. James was writing and he said Elijah was a man of like passion. He commanded, he gave instructions, and he said “let it be” and it was so. Those were not the only signs and wonders he commanded. It was the same Elijah who commanded the heavens to be shut for 3 and half years and God sent a widow to feed him. It was this same man of prayer that ravens were bringing food for, bringing both breakfast and dinner. I find it very strange for a bird that likes meat to be bringing meat for him and since the departure of Elijah from the surface of the earth, there is no man born of a woman that ravens have fed.

Prayer unlocks the door of signs and wonders. We believe that everything is possible for God but the key to unlocking the door of miracles is prayer. If you do not pray, you will not see signs and wonders. Yesterday we talked about how Sarah used her faith to collect her laughter but today, I want you to understand that prayer is the foundation of signs and wonders. So anywhere you see genuine miracles, there is thorough prayer. Prayer wets the ground, prayer soaks the ground and prayer makes your ground to be soft for miracles to take place.

The prayer of a righteous man, the Bible says availeth much. But the prayer of a sinner is an abomination to God. So God told us his standard when it comes to prayer. For a wicked man, it is an abomination but for a righteous man, it is an effective tool. So you have to choose. One of the things that power your prayer life is righteousness that when you begin to pray, heaven response.

Prayer is sacrifice because prayer is not an easy task but we pray because we have to pray and if we do not pray, we will become a prey in the hands of the devil. It is my prayer this morning that the God of signs and wonders will give us the strength to be tireless giants of prayer. Happy Sunday. God bless you.
