TOPIC: FOUR TYPES OF ADDICTION

A. PHYSICAL ADDICTION: When someone has to depend on a particular thing for refuge or solace. Using something to the point it becomes very harmful is physical addiction.
It is not yet an Addiction until you can’t do without it.

SYMPTOMS OF PHYSICAL ADDICTION:
Trembling or pain when the substance is deprived.
Withdrawal.
Physical addiction is not a day thing. Overtime the interest that keeps you connected to the substance or attitude

Some of us are addicted to a particular posture of sleep and if we don’t sleep in that manner we feel uncomfortable!

B. BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION: When physical addiction has gotten to a level it results into BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION. such as gambling, phones, internet, television,etc.

One cannot do without them. In physical addiction one might just be confined in a place or thing but for behavioral addiction one must engage in it within 14hours.

Your ability to keep your phone down and do other important things shows you’re not addicted to your phone but when you can’t do without it even in sleep, then you’re addicted to it. Some are addicted to earphones.

All addictions are very destructive no matter how simple they are.

Behavioral addiction begin to affect the individual to the extent he or she lack control over it.

SYMPTOMS OF BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION:
Mood modification
Withdrawal
Loss of control
Relapse

All these affect the mental productivity of a man. The person begins to do things unconsciously and they begin to misbehave. For instance, one addicted to alcohol would begin to misbehave due to the intake of alcohol!

There are ways to treatment of Behavioral Addiction. They include:

1. Cognitive therapy
2. One-on-one counselling
3. Self help group
4. Group Therapy

Behavioral addiction involve your inability to resist actions that are ultimately harmful to individual or people around you.

C. IMPULSE ADDICTION: This is something we do without calculating. For instance, being addicted to shopping. It is a sudden force or unreflective urge or desire to act without counting the cost. You don’t know why you’re doing it. And such people can argue and tend not to listen to corrections. For instance, stealing or taking someone’s belongings without permission, pulling of hair, etc
Here someone is stimulated to act without thinking about the effect. They have no reflections at all.

REASON FOR IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR:

1. Genetic
2. Personality type: Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic and Sanguineous. Their personality traits affects their behavior per time. Understanding your personality trait will enable you understand yourself and how to deal with you. Knowing our personality trait and our nature as a person enables us balance our lives
3. Mental Condition.

D. SPIRITUAL ADDICTION: This is when somebody is obsessed religiously. The Bible says Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” but these people are so obsessed religiously but yet they’re not righteous. Jesus said in Luke 11:52 “Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.” He was talking about those who studied the law.

E. SUBSTANCE ADDICTION: Those who are addicted to substances. Such as snuffs, heroin, chemicals, etc.

God wants us to be Better. The God of the Bible doesn’t want us to be the scribes, the Sadducees or the Pharisees. He wants us to be His reflection in words and in deeds where people will be able to emulate our Christian life.
The God of the Bible has created us to be like Him!

Tonight I see God setting us free from these addictions in Jesus name!
