In this series, we will be looking at the enemies of grace so that they can be avoided. Grace is not automatic as sin is not also automatic. Both of them are products of choice. In this new year, your decision is as important as your desires.
TOPIC: Sin is an Enemy of Grace
MEMORY VERSE: Bible. 1 Peter 1:13
[13]Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
FOCUS: Romans 6:1
[1]What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Sin refers to any thought, word, or action that goes against God’s will and laws. It is a moral failure or transgression that separates us from God and His perfect standard.
Grace on the other hand is the nature of God and His love towards humanity demonstrated through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Grace offers forgiveness, redemption and reconciliation with God.
Sin, on the other hand, works against this Grace in the following ways:
- Separate us from God
- It distorts our understanding of God’s character
- Leads us to rely on ourselves rather than God’s grace
- Causes us to miss the mark of God’s perfect standard and keeps us away from His will.
- Sin abuses God’s privileges without repentance.
In summary, sin is an enemy of grace.
LESSON: Romans 5:20
[20]Moreover, the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
God’s grace is greater than our sin and through faith in Jesus Christ, we can experience forgiveness, redemption and restoration and live a life empowered by God’s amazing grace.
The beauty of grace is that it can pick a man from the gutter and take him to the Palace by breaking all protocols.
Grace is not earned, it is received with Thanksgiving and joy and then it multiplies and that is why Apostle Paul keeps recommending the grace of God as his secret for exploits in life and ministry. Grace is delightful and it makes life easy and bearable and helps us to confront any type of sin.
Sin must be intentionally avoided if grace must be functional in our lives.
The wages of sin is death but where sin abounds grace did much more abound. Grace is not a license to sin but it’s an escape route from its consequences when it is probably understood by revelation. Grace brings a cure to all limitations.
PERSONAL CONFESSION: I refuse sin and it’s rewards.
PERSONAL PRAYER: Father, I receive grace to say no to sin and its enticement in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.Amen
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Until you leave sin , you can’t enjoy overwhelming grace
NOTE: The dividend for sin is shame.
