TOPIC: Humility sustains Prominence

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 22:4
[4]By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honor, and life.

FOCUS: 1 Peter 5:5
[5]Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues. True Humility is intelligence and self-respect which keeps us from thinking too meanly of ourselves. It makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be.

We come nearest to the great when we are in great humility. Humility involves recognizing one’s limitations, weaknesses and mistakes and being willing to learn from others, it is about being grounded, sincere and authentic, without pretenses or arrogance.
The Bible encourages submission to one another but it takes humility to submit to another person.
Until we are humble, we can’t sustain prominence.

LESSON: Matthew 11:29
[29]Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Humility has characteristics and it is those characteristics that make people retain prominence.
Characteristics of Humility:

  1. Modesty
  2. Open Mindedness
  3. Self Awareness
  4. Empathy
  5. Willingness to learn

Humility will always sustain prominence and that is why Jesus said his yoke is easy and light. Jesus expects us to learn from him.
Humility does the following for us;

  1. Builds trust and credibility
  2. Fosters collaboration and teamwork
  3. Encourages continuous learning and improvement.
  4. Develop emotional intelligence
  5. Promotes authentic leadership
  6. Enhances Reputation and legacy
  7. Fosters Resilience and Adaptability.

All these virtues require time and commitment before one can achieve them and that is where the yoke is, but failure to do it makes failure inevitable.
Since life is a choice, one yoke is easier than the other one.
I choose the yoke of humility rather than the burden of losing prominence.

PERSONAL CONFESSION: I will be humble so that I will not stumble in life.

PERSONAL PRAYER: Father, I receive grace to be humble always in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Without humility, there can be no humanity.

NOTE: Humility makes men like angels.
