In this series we will be looking at Triggers of signs and wonders. Just like your physical light switch is useless without a press that is how signs and wonders will be when deliberate steps are not in place to trigger it
TOPIC: LOVE (JOSEPH)
TEXT: Genesis 42:8 “And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.”
Memory Verse: 1John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
FOCUS:
We shall be looking at Trigger for signs and wonders in this new series. And the first trigger we shall be considering today is LOVE and our case study is JOSEPH.
Love covers multitudes of sin, so the Bible says; but love without a corresponding action is not love. No wonder someone said love is not love until it is expressed. Even God, you have to keep telling Him that you love Him. But we know that when you graduate from that basics, you have to put your love into action and that’s exactly what Joseph did even though he was hated in Genesis 37:4 by his brethren and they could not speak peacefully with him; they planned his hurt, to harm him. Infact they wanted to kill him if not for Reuben who suggested that they sold him.
Hatred makes people to go extra miles but today as the Lord liveth, anyone who hates you and hates your glory, may they become your slaves in Jesus name! Now, Joseph was not just their last born, he was the glory carrier in that family. So many family have used hatred to destroy the person that was meant to save them or meant to save their children in future. Haters don’t understand that God position people in families to help one another and because they are limited in understanding, you see them going outside their jurisdiction to plan hurt for the member of the family carrying the glory and this was the case of Joseph but Joseph did something that touched me: the bible says that Joseph told them at the end of the story which is my emphasis that ‘you meant it for evil but God has turned it to good.’ And this same Joseph blessed them! This very Joseph loved them! Don’t pay people back with hatred; you keep loving; keep showing people love and one day God will make His face to shine upon you. God bless you.
LESSON:
1John 3:14 “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.”
It was this love that made our case study Joseph to strive that when there was famine in Egypt, Joseph stood out. He went extra miles to save his family by giving them food and even put extra money in their bag. They didn’t recognize him because God has transformed him! But along the line, the Bible made us to understand that he went inside and wept because he recognized them but they didn’t recognize him. He asked them to bring his father but when they saw him, they did not know him but he recognized them and even in that, he didn’t use it as an opportunity to retaliate or avenge like many would do these days. He left everything to God and when God raised him, he did something unique that made me to understand the power of love – He loved his brethren. He told them that there is going to be famine and called them to stay with him; now this is how God want us to express our love.
Love without expressing it is not love. Until you love, then you don’t know God. God is love. He wants us to forgive people; even those who have despised, persecuted and done abominable things to us, God want us to love them. God does not want you to keep records of evil against people. God wants you to overlook like Joseph did. What else could they have done to someone that is more grievous than what was done to Joseph but the love of God dwelling in the heart of Joseph made him overlook the fault and the mistakes.
God bless you because I know that from today you are going to trigger signs and wonders by loving. Don’t just love God, love the brethren. When you love the brethren, you have overcome death; you have overcome lack; you have overcome poverty. And that is how it works! We love God because we love the brethren. God bless you. Amen. Don’t forget love is a trigger for signs and wonders!
